Gloria Anzalduasaid how she felt ashamed of her existence, because she was a Chicano Texas Spanish, Tex-Mex. Her teachers would correct her speech and punish her if she was caught speaking in Spanish. But my question is why? Why would you punish someone for speaking in their own language? How else are they going to learn English if they are not able to ask questions in their own language? I believe teachers should understand the struggles a non English student will already face from not knowing English. It should be the teaches priority to find ways to help teach the students English. If a student is always told that they are wrong and they should do something the teachers way how is this going to teach the student? If the student is having trouble its the teachers job to find out how to teach the student so they can learn and understand. A teacher should never make a student feel English is superior over Spanish, because that is wrong! If your in Germany the Germans will feel their language is superior then English which would be the same for any country you are in. The country language will always be the most common language, but that does not make it right to talk down or mistreat a person who speaks a different language. When all is said and done we are all humans and no matter what back ground you come from we are all equal.

Having watched both ads on T.V. and on YouTube I feel a YES vote is for me. Youtube has an ad called Vote Yes on Prop 2 [Warning Graphic Content]. This ad applies all of Aristotle’s three areas or rhetorical technique as described in the excerpt from his Rhetoric. First pathos is very strong in this ad. It shows pictures of the chickens, cows, and pigs in very small cages and you can see the unpleasant they are experiencing. Then at the end of the ad it shows animals not in cages and they look healthier. Of course this plays on a persons emotion (pathos) how could a person see an animal suffer and not be affected. The ad is well informed on how the animals suffers and how it can be changed by giving them digger cages. They also did research on how much it would cost to fix this problem. The ad says it would only cost about one cent an egg to fix the chicken egg problem. This would be the logos technique. Finally, it applies the ethos by naming the of veterinarians who stand by this prop and then you are giving a website to find out more information if needed. Then I watched the No on Prop2 ad. This ad was very shot with no real evidence to way we should vote no. The women is a pediatrician who was raised on a farm, she states her family knows the importance of having healthy animals. Okay, but that dose not mean other farmers know or we would not have it problem. The whole ad is based on scaring you into think if you vote yes we will then receive our food from Mexico and that could lead to diseases. But there’s no evidence to any of their claims its just statements being made. The only rhetorical technique would be pathos, which they try to scare you into voting no.

A mother goes to school to pick up her son, who’s in the first grade. She ask, ” what did you learn today”? He replies, “we learn to memorize that eight times eight equals 64″. She is very proud of him for memorizing this math sum. But then the little boy ask, “what does eight mean” ? If the child is taught to just memorize the numbers and not shown what they stand for then he’ll never truly learn. You can teach a one year old child to show you one finger when you ask them how old they are, but that does not mean they know what one is. I believe this is what Paulo Freire was saying when he talked about the teachers being the student and the student being the teacher. If we are told something and just store it in our mind without any prof of it being true, then how are we exposed to learn what it is and how it works. By the teacher showing the class and enter acting with the students. By asking questions and responding to them, the students can learn and the teacher can also learn from the students. The teacher could be teaching a topic that he or she isvery familiar with, but a student brings up another point, that the teacher never thought of, and if the teacher is willing to be open mined and except the point the student is making and explorer the new direction of the topic then the teacher could learn something from the student. By doing this and learning from each other the teacher can be a better teacher, and the student can be a better student.

Okay I don’t know about you but I don’t go around drinking blood. I understand what Cotton in saying in regards to blood transfusion that Johova’s witness don’t belive in them. But we are not telling them to drink the blood it’s a little different then that. The blood is given to them in a IV not a cup. I believe that this is an oversimplification statement.

First off I’d like to give a shout out to all my English 1A classmates. Then I would like to say McClellan was from civil war times McKieran is the guy working in Iraq. And no the vice president does not have a lot of jobs there only job is to break a tie in the senateand if the president should be unable to do his job the vice president would take over so please tell me where all these jobs are coming from? It fills like Sarah does not have all the fax correct. She keeps missing the point of the question and just pushes the McCaine is a good guy. I’m not feeling it, but maybe its because I’m middle class you know us hockey mom’s with Joe six packs as husbands. Sarah say Americans are craving something new then why would we do another four years with the Republicans. Sarah sounds as if us hockey moms and Joe six pack where forced to sing on the dotted line to get the loans that they could never afford. Where Joe says two years ago Obama said and warnedthe sub prime was a problem. McCaine was surprised it was a problem just in December? Where has he been the last two years when people where losing there homes. Oh ya I forget he has so many homes he was not for sure the number of them. As I’m sure you can tell I’m not for the McCaine, Palin. I believed she tried hard to win the bebate for her team but I fill she came up short. It time for a change and that would be with Obama.

If one only knows what you are taught, then how can they say what someone else knows that is different from them be consider bad or wrong. In Plato’s Allegory of the cave the people or poisoners of their beliefs only believed what was shown to them. Then once one was shown that there’s was more out there in the world the others turnaginst that person, because they only believe what they are told or shown. How is this in our world? As Americans we are giving the chance to learn if we what to take it. As a child the most of us are tolded by our parents that Santa Clause is real, and if we are good little boys and girls he’ll bring us presents at Chirstmas time. Then as we get older some of your classmates tell you Santa Clause is not real that he does not existed. How doyou as a child react to this, at first you fight back and protest there claims, then over time you come to realise that they might just be right. And why do you open your mind to the ideal that just maybe Santa Clause might not be real, Because we are giving the opportunity to explore our minds. Where as with Plato’s story of the people in the cave they where never giving the chance to explore there mind beyond the shadows in the cave, so when one of then was giving the chance to experienced the world outside the cave, the others could not comperhend anything the person seen because in there mind there was no gather object beyond the shadows on the wall.

As stated in the end of the question could we have form a value – neutral perspective as an outsider observing the cultural practices that we are not accustom to. I don’t know if we could or lest I could not. I could never watch a person being sacrifice and not say something I don’t care if it is there belief, I feel its wrong. The same with female genital mutilation, how could a man believe it’s whats best for his wife just because his father and fathers father believe it was a way of keeping her pure. Come on there comes a time in your life when you question whats right and wrong and how can hurting someone because of your beliefs be okay. As you problemy can tell there is no way I could have a neutral perspective on the practices of other cultural when it comes to harming a nother person. In our cultural today there is a lot of people who are fight against peoples choses in religion. There has been many protest, fights, debates over the name of religion. The same as same sex marriage. Some people are not willing to except same sex marriage into their cultural, because it has never been apart of our cultural before. But them you have the people who do agree with same sex marriage. They are fighting to make same sex marriage legal. And there’s many other debates our cultural has everyday. If we can’t have a neutral look on our cultural and beliefs how can we have it on other cultural.

Mencius philosophy on human nature seemed to be based on internal feelings and love. That humans do not have to prove they are naturally good. But is it true that they can change to the bad or is it whats around us that makes us bad. Mencius says in paragraph 29 ” In good years the children of the people are most of then good, while in bad years the most of them abandon themselves to evil…. The abandonment is owing to the circumstances through which they allow their minds to be ensnared and drowned in evil.” But is this true or do they have a chose to be good or evil. I, as a children live in a drug environment, and I made the chose myself not to live that way. I was never taught it was bad to do drugs as a little child, it was my internal feelings my human nature to know drugs where bad and I did not what that life. I do feel what you are exposed to can change you from good to evil or evil to good, but it is the person themselves that have to make that decision and that decision is what I feel is human nature. Mencius feels we are born with good and turn bad from our environment . But if that were true, then we would all be evil. Because lets face it who has not had a hard time in there life but still was able to come out of it good.

Hello everyone reading this. This is my first time blogging my daughter said ,”she is very proud of me.” I have no clue why I still fill losted but I’m sure this will get easyer with time. Okay here goes. I’m a mother of two but sometimes I think I have three because my husband is a big kid also. We love to go to the river in the summer and to the race track. My husband drives a super late model stockcar and I spot for him. which is I stand in a tower with a headset that lets me talk to him and he can talk back to me. I let him know whats going on and if he is clear to pass a car or if someone is about to pass him. When we are not at the track you can usally find us working on the car and once in a great while the two girls will get their hands drity with us. I’m also a stay at home mom, and go to school at night I’m hoping to become a teacher one day. I wish everyone the best of luck in this class. Have a great weekend Stepher16
